Luke Hubley is an active freelance percussionist who specializes in music theater and contemporary music. He has performed with several Houston-area theater companies including Theater Under the Stars, Alley Theatre, AD Players, Stages Repertory Theatre, Queensbury Theater among others. He serves as a Co-Artistic Director of the Liminal Space Contemporary Music Ensemble and has performed with several other contemporary music organizations including Aperio, MUSIQA, the Houston Composers Salon, the Foundation for Modern Music, Opera Vista, the Austin New Music Co-Op, Da Camera’s Young Artists, and has appeared on the Brave New Waves Electronic Music Series, the Houston X-WAVE SoundArt Festival, and the Houston Fringe Festival. Luke has performed with the Houston Grand Opera HGOco, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Midland-Odessa Symphony, and the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra.
Luke has performed in the Houston premiere of several works including Steve Reich’s 2X5, which he organized along with George Heathco for Liminal Space; Michael Gordon’s Timber; John Luther Adams’ Inuksuit; Samuel Carl Adams’ Tension Studies among many others.
Luke is an active music educator who serves on the faculty at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, and also at San Jacinto College. Luke runs a thriving private teaching studio and has helped several students successfully audition for collegiate music programs. Additionally, he works with AFA in their summer music festival. Luke has performed on faculty recitals at Houston Community College and Texas A&M University and has performed at the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, at the Texas Music Educators Association convention.
Luke holds both a Doctorate of Musical Arts and a Master of Music from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Music Education from Texas State University.
